Can you, or do you want to?

Writer's picture: Jamie KlusacekJamie Klusacek

First the leper in Matthew 8 worships Jesus. Then he acknowledges that Jesus is Lord—PUBLICLY in front of everyone.

Then He asks Jesus a question, "Lord if you are willing You can make me clean."

This is a question about "want to" not "can You."

The word "willing" (2962) in the Greek means: to will, wish, desire, implying active volition and purpose."

You see, this man is not asking Jesus, "Can you heal me?" He already believes that Jesus can heal him.

Instead, he's saying "Are you willing to heal me?" Meaning, do you care about me enough to heal me? Do you value and love me enough to heal me?

It's a question about the heart of God, not the power of God towards him.

If you've ever asked yourself, "Does God care enough about me to do a miracle in my life?"

I want you to know that the answer to that question is yes.
