Courage to Listen

Writer: Jamie KlusacekJamie Klusacek

If you’re looking for something other than God’s voice to give you direction, empowerment, identity, fulfillment, and value, know that only God was meant to fulfill that in your life.

Words from others will encourage you for a season. But when the Word of God is deposited into your heart, it is like a well that never runs dry.

So why do we often feel like we can’t hear His voice? Many times we can’t distinguish God's voice because we haven’t developed a deep relationship with Him. The reason my five-year-old, last week, reached such a desperation point in the grocery store was because she thought she lost her Mommy.

All she knew those first few years of life was life with Mommy. Her mom protected her. Nurtured her. Loved her. Provided for her. She knew that without Mommy, a piece of her would be missing, and in some respects she probably thought she couldn’t truly live without

Mommy. That is why it was so devastating to her that she lost me.

Yet, how many of us, including myself, think we can survive without God intricately involved in

our lives? We are drawn away by shiny new merchandise lining each aisle of life, pleading for our full attention and admiration.

We may hear God calling, gently nudging our hearts towards Him, but we refuse to listen. If we truly knew the Father, we would gladly trust that anytime we hear His voice, it’s time for us to come running to Him. God always has our good in mind.

So with this short blog this week now comes a challenge: listen and get to know your Heavenly Father. Ask Him to speak to you, not just during your mornings, but give Him full-access to your life—every part of your day. Dive in to His word with consistant determination. Get to know the One who loves you deeply.

"As a resource, you can use this amazing tool we've been walking through as a church called SOAP (scripture, observation, application, prayer). It's a guide to help you discern God's voice and let me tell you, it's been well worth it. You can do it in as little as 5 to 10 minutes daily or as long as 2 hours. Click here for a free download."
