I Shall Not Want

"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Psalm 23:1
I think sometimes we have a perspective in our Christian walk that says "don't expect much from God because then you won't be disappointed." I want to challenge that perspective today because you are the child of a God who loves to provide for you. He loves it when you take all your dreams and desires, submit them to Him, and allow Him to provide for you the way He sees fit.
The word want (2637) in the original Hebrew means to lack, run dry, decrease, deprive, cause to fail, be less than or make lower. To be clear, this is what the psalmist David is saying God does not allow in our lives. God promises we won't live in lack when He is our Shepherd.
God wants us to cultivate a heart that trusts Him. He is not going to lead you into a place of decrease or less than. He will not lead you to places where you will fail epically according to His standards. He wants you to succeed in your walk with Him and in life.
He wants you to succeed in the areas really matter.
Here's where the disconnect happens for me. Sometimes I find that God leads me into places that on the outward are seriously uncomfortable. It's like He leads me to a sofa made of granite and He's asks me to relax. Yet the discomfort of that season ALWAYS leads to sweet fruit in my life, if I trust Him in it in the journey. He inevitably leads me to a place or richness and fulfillment in Him, even though I had to walk through some difficulty to get there.
I know the same is true for you.
Remember His promise, "... you shall not want" with God as your Shepherd.
Study deeper this week. A great resource I love to use is enduringword.com along with my Bible.
Love you always,
