Remember how we said that a person with leprosy wasn't allowed to be touched. And possibly this man had not been touched for 20 to 30 years.
Jesus could have healed this man ANYWAY He wanted.
He could have spoken the words. He could have told him to go wash in the river. But He didn't ... Jesus healed this man with a touch.
I think Jesus healed this man with a touch because He knew exactly what this mean needed. By touching a man who hadn't been touched for decades, someone who wasn't allowed to be touched because he was labeled as unclean—Jesus was making a statement:
I LOVE YOU.
This man needed an outward healing, yes, but he also needed an inward healing.
Any by the way when this man was asking if Jesus could make him "clean" (2511) this word in Greek means: to cleanse or heal to make pure. Figuratively to cleanse in a moral sense from moral pollution.
It was an outward and inward cleansing, a two part miracle.
God knows the BEST way to heal us. I'm praying that there's a deeper healing found in the "method" of your healing than even the outward healing itself.
