Laying Hands on My Head

A few months after having COVID it felt as if I was loosing exorbitant amounts of hair. Now before you say that I was only imagining it I have to make you aware of the "hair tie test." The hair tie test is simple: I used to barely be able to get the hair tie around my hair three times. Now, however, I can fit it around three times easily, with room to spare—the hair tie test.

I was taking all the vitamins I knew how to take. I was exercising regularly. I was eating healthy (mostly). I was sleeping well at night. Yet, still it seemed as if my hair was not growing back.

So I did what any Bible believing woman would do: I laid hands on my head and started praying for my hair to grow back.

That's right, you heard me correctly. The Bible says to lay hands on the sick to make them well, it never said you can't lay your own hands on yourself—so that's exactly what I did!

I'd walk around my bathroom with hands on my head and pray, "hair grow in Jesus name." I laugh about it now, but I didn't know who could help me but Jesus.

Fast forward a few months to this past week. I was in my car, waiting in the unending car pool line for school pick up when I noticed something spectacular in the rear view mirror. I noticed a group of little tiny hairs, about and inch long popping out of my hairline. They poking up proudly, glistening in the afternoon sun. I remembered my prayers months earlier quickly followed by the thought, "I wish these little hairs would grow quicker and instantly be as long as my other hairs."

It was in that moment that I realized I should be thankful for the growth that was evident—admittedly, the miracle had already begun.

Isn't that what growth is all about? Some of us have been praying for miracles in our lives. We even see evidence that the miracle has begun, but we get frustrated because it's not in it's fullness, it's not complete. It's like little tiny hairs poking out of our hair line, but we want instantaneous length, completion.

Many times our miracles, our growth, comes through a process, not in an instant.

Can I step in and remind you to be thankful for the small. Be thankful for the little growth. Be thankful for the start of the miracle God has begun in your life. It may not be to the place or maturity you want it to be, but it's begun. God has started a work and He will complete it.

Beginnings from God are simply guarantees that He will finish (Read Philippians 1:6).

"Rejoice in the small today friend. The little hairs that are sticking up proudly from your hairline are reminders that God is growing you. Remember, anything of worth undergoes a process of growth."
