Ok. It's I love that Jesus heals and unclean man and then spends time with a gentile, which is very strategic on Matthews part to document this.
Let's talk about this centurion man for a minute.
Here's what the centurion says to Jesus: "My servant is lying at home paralyzed dreadfully tormented." Basically, he's asking for healing for his servant.
But here's what I found that's so unique about this man. (Warning: this is another geeked-out-study-scripture moment from Jamie)
Did you know, that under Roman law a Master had the right to kill a sick or injured slave who couldn't do his or her work.
He had every legal right to kill his servant, but he chose a different path.
Instead of punishing his slave, he petitioned Jesus on his servants behalf.
Instead of killing him, he sought healing for him.
Instead of death, he pleaded before Jesus for his life.
This is the kind of person I want to be. This is how I want to treat others in my life.
I pray that Jesus gives us a heart, like this man, who pleads to Jesus on behalf of others.
