Unreserved Celebration

"MAY MY BELIEF IN GOD CATCH UP TO THE DESTINY HE HAS PLANNED FOR MY LIFE—AND MAY I UNRESERVEDLY CELEBRATE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.”

Another word for "celebrate” is “festivities,” which includes, but is not limited to revelry and merrymaking. That takes celebrating to an entirely new level. It is top-notch, expressive moments with God and others.

Celebration: From a trickle to a flood. From a whisper to a roar.

At the beginning of 2022 year, when all the New Year’s items were on superdiscounted clearance, I bought twelve bottles of sparkling cider. At a dollar each, it wasn’t a huge investment, yet after this crazy year of COVID I decided we were going to have some planned family celebration. Not just once or twice throughout the year, but consistent celebration with God.

The bottles are stored on our garage floor, in a not-so-neat line in front of our car. I bought one bottle for each month. At the end of each month, or sometimes during, we find one major thing to celebrate together, with God and each other.

We sit down in front of our crackling fireplace, pour sparkling cider into deliciously fun glasses, and then begin a procession of toasting to God’s miracles in our lives for that month. We each share one thing we are thankful for.

For each of us, the miracle is different. The effect of this celebration on our family has been deep, substantial, and lasting. We are learning to celebrate with Jesus. To pause from our schedules, come together, and mine out the meaningful moments that God has gifted to us.

God is giving us His eyes to see His blessings, and each month never fails to disappoint.

It’s easy to bypass the blessings of God and only acknowledge the mundane demands of life. It may seem counterproductive to allow time in your schedule to not just rest, but to celebrate.

Sometimes it may even seem like there is nothing to celebrate. But I believe the truly courageous see the blessings surrounding them, unnoticeable to the untrained eye, and take time to celebrate them. Have the courage to celebrate today.

"Maybe this week you need to go out, get a bottle of sparkling juice and find something to celebrate with Jesus."
